Principal's Message

Welcome to all of our new students, parents, and guardians who have joined our Van Nuys Middle School Family this year!

Van Nuys Middle School is one of the oldest middle schools in the San Fernando Valley and has been in existence for over 100 years, and has been at this location, which is now Sherman Oaks, since 1948. There isn’t a week that goes by without a former student walking through our front doors and sharing their successes and family updates with a staff member. We are an integral component of our Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks community.

Our vision for our students is simply stated as: Learning Today, for Tomorrow. It is vitally important that we provide our children with the knowledge and academic skills needed to move forward and be successful in high school, and beyond. We also see it as our mission to provide our children with the social and emotional support needed to be successful as they move though their middle-school years.

I look forward to our continued partnership with our parents and community as we move forward with Common Core Standards and student-centered instructional practices. And, understanding that parent involvement in a child’s education is a key factor in academic achievement, I invite each and every parent or guardian to take an active role in his or her child’s learning. If you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer at Van Nuys Middle School, please stop by the Parent Center and speak with our Community Representative.

Sincerely,
Cristina Serrano
