STEPS Organization

STEPS (Students, Teachers Educate, Parents Support) is the Van Nuys Middle School Parent Organization established to support our school community. We are a booster club, not a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We sponsor the Spelling Bee, Grad Night, Teacher Appreciation, Incoming Student Picnic, attendance incentives, and special events throughout the year.
 
We fundraise for these causes and engage the community by hosting restaurant days and coordinating banners for the school fences, and are open to further fundraising ideas; please share any you have with us! For current fundraising efforts, please see details below. 
 
Parent Meetings take place monthly on Zoom on the second Tuesday night of the month at 6:30 pm. Upcoming meeting dates and Zoom links can be found here and on the VNMS calendar.

Your involvement is important to your child’s success, and your creativity helps our school community to thrive!  In addition to field trips and in-school volunteering during the day, here are some of the annual events, usually evenings and weekends, that need parent volunteers.

  • Teacher Appreciation Holiday Luncheon (Decorating, Serving)
  • Theater, Band, and Orchestra Performances
  • Family Math & Science Night
