College and Career Corner
At Van Nuys Middle School, our mission is to help students become college and career-ready. Students will be prepared to successfully plan and pursue an education and career path aligned to their personal goals, with the ability to adapt as job demands change. Students will graduate with strong academic knowledge, the behaviors and skills with which to apply their knowledge, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. Each student should be an independent learner and have respect for a diverse society and a commitment to responsible citizenship.
We plan field trips to local colleges each year. Last year we attended LA Valley College, California State University, Northridge, and UC Los Angeles.
A couple of useful links are below:
TRIO’s college preparation programs are federally funded programs designed to support and motivate students from disadvantaged backgrounds as they navigate their academic experience from middle school through college.
Naviance helps middle school students identify their strengths and explore careers to increase college awareness and access. Students have the opportunity to complete tasks and participate in college-access lessons within the platform. To support self-discovery and career awareness, they can take personal interest surveys and explore the Road Trip Nation archives to learn from experts in multiple fields.
Collegeboard.com is loaded with valuable information for students and their parents as they plan for college. We encourage all Van Nuys Middle School families to browse this website and discover all the information that is at their fingertips. Do not hesitate to contact a teacher, counselor, or administrator for more information.
