Welcome
Hello, my name is Janelle Piva, and I am thrilled to be part of VEA at VNMS! I teach 7th grade Honors World History and 8th grade Honors U.S. History. I also run Game Club on Fridays during lunch, which is always a highlight of my week.
A bit about myself: I graduated from CSUN with an M.A. in History and became a teacher to share my passion for the subject. History is my jam, and I firmly believe it can be both fun and relevant. I strive to create a classroom environment where students can tap into their creative and academic potential through rigorous and engaging lessons. I use Equity Grading and Instruction (EGI), project-based learning, and a positive growth mindset to support my students' success.
I use Equitable Grading and Instruction to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. This approach focuses on student growth and progress, allowing students to demonstrate their knowledge over time. Our History Interactive Notebooks (HIN) are a key tool in this process, helping students stay organized and make strong connections with the material.
Communication is important to me, so I will regularly update students and parents/guardians through Blackboard Connect and Schoology about upcoming projects, grades, and behavior. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] or through Schoology.
Outside of school, I enjoy video and board games, traveling, and cooking. I'm excited for the year ahead and can't wait to explore history with you!
